Ontario announces new Turkey season - includes Muzzleloading Shotguns

Ontario has introduced new fall turkey seasons this year in seven southern Wildlife Management Units (WMUs).

Environmental Registry of Ontario post 019-4567, which proposed to establish new fall wild turkey seasons in WMUs 60, 63, 69, 70, 74, 75, and 86, was approved on Feb. 25 by the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry and The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act of 1997 was amended to reflect the decision.

The new seasons will be open from Oct. 1 to 31 for bow hunters and a shotgun and muzzleloading shotgun season will be open from the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to the second following Sunday. Participating hunters can purchase one fall wild turkey tag and harvest one wild turkey (male or female) during any fall season.

“The opening of more fall seasons validates this conservation success story as it shows how well reintroduction of wild turkeys has worked in Ontario,” said Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters Resource Management Specialist Lauren Tonelli.
