CVA Teases updated WOLF and talks manufacturing delays in Muzzle-loaders.com Podcast

Jason Sebo from CVA appeared on the Muzzle-Loaders.com Podcast this week. It's a great interview and you should really check it out. Darren Binder does a great job and they have been producing a ton of content over there to help new muzzleloading enthusiasts learn and get started.

I'm not writing this to take away from the podcast, I wanted to highlight a few details shared by Sebo in the interview that I think muzzleloading enthusiasts might not catch in their first listen and I think these points give us some insight into CVA and where they are going with muzzleloaders.

First up is some upcoming innovations from CVA. Jason was pretty tight lipped, but he did say that CVA is looking into a newly developed coating. He said "I thought CVA was at the limit of innovation for muzzleloaders, but we've found this coating that can increase accuracy dramatically". Unfortunately, he didn't share any more information and that's understandable. If this coating is something they have just found, they don't want another company to swoop in and license it before they can get a lock on it, IF they even end up using it.

This is in no way a done deal, but I thought it was worth highlighting. Modern muzzleloaders are about as good as it gets, at least in my opinion and if we are getting down to particular "coatings" to improve accuracy, there isn't much more room left!

Naturally, the conversation turned to the current supply shortages, it's something everyone is fighting and looks to be fighting for a while now. Sebo shares that there are two main challenges CVA is working to overcome.

  1. Raw Material Shortages

  2. Getting Product through the ports.

CVA is owned by Bergara/BPI Outdoors and all of their muzzleloaders are made overseas, and the backlog of shipping from 2020-2021 is really putting a hurt on the customs officials checking containers. Throw in raw material shortages and you get these crazy delays. I don't care if you want a muzzleloader or a new pair of shoes, it's hard to get anything right now.

Probably the biggest news though is an updated Wolf for 2022. Sebo shared this news after discussing the updated Paramount and Accura line. In a roundabout way, he said it was time to show one of their most love muzzleloaders some love and bring updates shooters want to their budget muzzleloader.

Many shooters bawk at the price tag of the paramount line from CVA, but these innovations are always pricey in their first few years. That timing is not unique to muzzleloaders, it's in everything. What gets me excited though is when these innovations become cheaper and we can start to see them trickle down to the budget friendly models like the Wolf. We don't know what changes are coming to the Wolf just yet, but if CVA keeps up with it's trends from the past few years, we'll get an idea in January 2022.
