Muzzleloader course to be given in Wheatfield, NY

Niagra Frontier Publications shared an update for anyone looking to recieve their muzzleloader discharge permit for the 2022-2023 hunting season. There will be a Muzzleloader course held at the community center on Wednesday October 19 at 7PM.

Hunting season is almost here, and the Firearms Permit Review Board (FPRB) of Wheatfield will offer its annual muzzleloader course at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Community Center located behind Town Hall.

A certificate will be issued to those taking this course, as a requirement for a muzzleloader discharge permit. A press release noted, “With its prime focus on firearm safety,” Wheatfield firearms law 1-1975, amended July 15, “prohibits all rifle discharge within town limits except by permit.”

There is no course fee. Organizers said this session is “open to anyone 14 years and older (14-17 with parent/adult) interested in muzzle loading, with young adults and women being especially welcome.”

Those interested in taking this course can sign up or call the town clerk’s office at 716-694-6441. Copies of the firearms law with area maps are available at the office.

No refreshments will be served; however, participants may bring their own drink/snack.
