Hodgdon Black Powder Plant Burns

This story isn't from this week, this actually happened back in June. We're reporting on it now because we are starting to get a picture of how this is going to affect blackpowder distribution from Hodgdon/Goex.

In June 2021, part of the GOEX blackpowder plant caught fire causing some pretty bad damage as well as stopping production. We're waiting to hear more information on how the rebuild goes, but my sources say distribution of blackpowder to civilians could be delayed as Hodgdon fulfills some of it's contracts.

So, what does this affect?

Thankfully it's not going to affect Blackhorn 209, which we're just now starting to see back on store shelves. Depending on how long these delays go, it could affect GOEX blackpowder production and distribution, slowing down supply for traditional muzzleloading enthusiasts around the US.

We don't want to see a run on powder, or shortages like we have this past year, so if you know you will need some extra powder for the fall/winter this year, maybe buy an extra can. If you are sitting on a lot of powder, kindly leave some for those without and help prevent a shortage.

Schuetzen/Swiss BP continues importing RWS Caps

It looks like another 2 million RWS Caps are making their way into the US thanks to Schuetzen/Swiss Blackpowder. With CCI Caps no where to be seen, and likely delayed until modern centerfire premier production has caught up, imported RWS Caps may be the way to keep shooting your cap and ball muzzleloaders.

Just like the shipment earlier this year, these caps will be headed to distributors and vendors around the country, so check in with your favorite muzzleloading retailer in the coming weeks to see if they have them in stock. Again, please don't hoard, there are a lot of new muzzleloading enthusiasts out there having trouble getting started, and leaving a few tins on the shelf helps new people continue on their blackpowder journey.

CVA shares some details on 2021 muzzleloading release plan

In a comment thread on the Modern Muzzleloader Facebook group, CVA Rep Rick Taylor responded to a question about why retailers have preorders and CVA.com doesn't.

CVA_Retailers_07_21.jpg

In short, CVA is supplying to their retail partners first before putting the rifles for sale on their own site. This seems a little backward really, but it's putting the customer first, something you don't see much in 2021. CVA is looking at this and saying, "look, we know we need to get these out to customers as fast as possible", and they are letting the retailers at the front of the line.

Also with this, MidWay is looking to have the Accura X series rifles, meaning the MRX and LRX in stock August 21, 2021. It's late in the month for sure, but I think at this stage in the year, if you want one of these new muzzleloaders from CVA, you are going to be willing to wait.

Landon Kenney wins July 2021 Inline Hunters Match at Friendship

Landon_0721.jpg

Perhaps the youngest shooter in the history of the Match, Landon continues a line of Bestill Custom Creations dominance at Bob Wetzler's Inline Hunter Match. This is a great match ran by some wonderful volunteers. It features a tough course of fire at a notoriously windy range, making this win by Landon well earned. Congratulations Landon, very proud of you!
