Muzzleloading World Championship set for Hungary in 2022

In a post shared by “DesertDeuce” on the Shiloh Forums we get our first glimpse into what could be the next international Muzzleloading Competition governed under the MLAIC.

We’ve tried to verify this news via the MLAIC but have not heard back, and the MLAIC website has not been updated since January, 2021.

According to this post, the MLAIC World Championships will resume in 2022 and will be hosted by Hungary from August 1-7, 2021. Most of the information comes from an email from the new captain of the long-range team, Lee Shaver.

There were and are some other challenges with the match that I will get into briefly. The match was originally to take place this year, but thanks to Covid the whole world got postponed for a while.

Hungary volunteered to host this world championships, but there are no ranges with pull type targets in most of Europe. Hungary has been working on the idea of using camera systems to score targets, and had plans to test it a year ago, but then the pandemic caused problems for that. The borders were closed.

The Hungarian committee has procured some American camera systems called Long Shot 3 camera systems. These things work up to 2 miles away and have high definition cameras with 8x digital zoom.

Well respected shooters from Germany, Switzerland, France and others have recently concluded a several day test in Hungary with this system and after four days and approximately 250 shots fired, they concluded that the camera system is satisfactory at all distances.

Thanks to the success of this test weekend, they are now ready to announce that the match will indeed be held in 2022. The dates will be August 1 thru 7 of August, 2022.

There are some details yet to be worked out, so the official invitation has not yet been sent out, but it should be by the end of the year or shortly after.

The important thing is that the match is now a definite thing, The date is set, and plans can begin.

As we head into winter here in the US, it’s nice to start thinking of the 2022 muzzleloading competition season to fight cabin fever. Competitions like the MLAIC are one of a kind and we look forward to keeping you updated with as much news as we can about the US and the international teams as they begin planning for the 2022 season.

While competition may not be for everyone, I like to think of the MLAIC as the Olympics of muzzleloading. Sure, I’m not interested in track and field most of the time, but it’s fun to tune in from time to time. I hope you enjoy the coverage as we continue to promote muzzleloading for all.
