Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Sponsors Women in Muzzleloading Event this November

Women interested in muzzleloading can get a head start this fall thanks to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency. The “Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Muzzleloader Workshop” scheduled for November 12-14 aims to guide female hunters over the age of 18 through the principles of deer hunting. In addition to the hunts, there will be a variety of informational sessions including deer biology, deer management, and hunting ethics.

The modern sportsman is becoming very conscious of the environments they enjoy and protect, it’s great to see state wildlife agencies work this portfolio of understanding into what some may see as a more traditional hunters education class.

The workshop will be held at the Buffalo Ridge Refuge in Humphrey’s County, TN. The class is $250 (this fee includes meals and camping), registration is a first come first served basis, but newcomers are given priority.

NASHVILLE --- The 2021 Beyond Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Muzzleloader Workshop will be sponsored by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Nov12-14 in Humphreys County.

Female hunters 18 and older will have the opportunity to learn about hunting deer during the weekend. The workshop will be held at Buffalo Ridge Refuge, which incorporates a variety of wildlife management practices and totals more than 2,000 acres of prime deer habitat. Along with the hunts, a variety of topics including deer biology, deer management, and hunting ethics will be covered.

Registration for the workshop is on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, two weeks priority will be given to first-time participants. The cost of the workshop is $250, which includes meals and camping, if participants wish to camp. Campers must provide their own gear. A list of local hotels will be included with the registration packet.

Workshop participants are required to have the appropriate licenses. Participants born on or after Jan. 1, 1969 will need to have successfully completed the hunter education course. Participants will draw from a number of predetermined sites that will have tree stands.  There will be two hunts on Saturday and one Sunday morning.

Editors Note: I’m a big fan of this kind of event and hope to see more states implementing hands-on workshops for new outdoor enthusiasts. A focus on muzzleloaders is a HUGE bonus for the muzzleloading community. I feel muzzleloaders serve as an important introduction for many into hunting and shooting sports.

The heritage and art of muzzleloaders continue to break down the sentiments of gun-weary people. Continued use of muzzleloaders as an introductory tool gets more people outside and gets more people exposed to our American culture.
