Trekking Weekend 2024 Update | 1 Week to Go

The extended forecast for the weekend is starting to solidify, and while not solid, we are getting a glimpse of what we could be in for.

Looks like there is a chance of rain, we will continue forward with the event rain or shine. Non-perfect weather was a fact of life in the time period and we aim to embrace it. If we are all huddled around a fire damp and cold, we will surely find something fun that will make good memories.

I'm finalizing my packing this weekend and will share my list soon. I'm planning on a similar pack to my outing last fall, two blankets and clothing, just enough food to make me appreciate the modern world. I might throw in a small tarp and ropes, but we will see.

Signs will outline the path to our camp. Remember, no vehicles in camp, please pack in to the best of your ability. I will happily help you carry gear if needed.

Below is my video from last fall, and a look at what we could see this weekend.

A reminder that participants need to be NMLRA members to camp, trek/hike, and shoot. I'm planning on having membership pads at camp, but you can save time by calling the NMLRA, or joining online before the event.

A major factor in this event being possible is the NMLRA, its staff, grounds, and association insurance. Hosting an event like this can be complicated and they've been great to work with.

Along those lines, I have a release form that needs to be signed by participants. We shouldn't be in any danger, accidents can happen. I'll have forms at the event, or you can download yours and bring it along, or email it to me.

Please bring a “blanket prize” if you will be joining in on the shoot. A blanket prize is an item ~$20 in value that will be placed on a blanket at the end of the shoot. My goal is to have enough prizes for everyone to choose a prize from the blanket and go home with something cool. I have sourced several prizes to kick us off that I think everyone could enjoy.

The shoot will focus on the woods walk with a paper tiebreaker target. Based on the feedback I’ve received, I think we could have too many people for an organized paper match. The woods walk will be around 20 targets on the NMLRA woods walk. We will use some NMLRA targets and some of my personal silhouettes. Plan accordingly!
