Kill or be Kild Grave Marker Embroidered Morale Patch (Black and White)
Patches are velcro/hook & loop backed
Patch does not come with a loop backer
Patches are roughly 3" Tall, 4” Wide
Based on the representation of “Memento MorI” on grave markers of the 18th century, this patch combines the “dead head” motif with a popular phrase found on powder horns.
I’ve been studying early American artwork for several years now. The artwork created by the colonists is as fascinating to me as any fantasy world. Their world was uncomfortable and often brutal. Their possessions were needed to survive, but they were made as artfully as any contemporary artist would.
“Memento Mori” was a common notion on the frontier, illness, predators and seemingly endless war was always around the corner.
