1st GOEX Shipment arrives at NMLRA | Selling for $24/lb, 2F, 3F, 4F Available

Some said it would never happen, others said it was foolish to talk about, but it has happened. GOEX is producing sporting black powder for muzzleloading enthusiasts once again.

Mid-day September 8, 2023, the first shipment of newly produced GOEX Blackpowder since Estes Energetics purchased the brand is available to muzzleloading enthusiasts. Around 1,800 lbs of 2F, 3F, and 4F “regular” GOEX made its way to the NMLRA National Championships in Friendship Indiana.

The NMLRA is pricing the powder at $24 per lb. This is an increased price compared to pre-2019, but is lower than the remaining GOEX has been in recent years.

Deer Creek Products (deercreekproducts.net) is the distributor for the NMLRA.

When will GOEX be available?

For NMLRA Members at the NMLRA National Championship shoot September 9-17, 2023, GOEX is available. If you aren’t a member and wish to attend and purchase powder, you can do so by joining the NMLRA for as little as $35 for the year.

For those enthusiasts not at the NMLRA, we don’t have a definite timeline just yet, though I will be speaking with representatives from GOEX this weekend and bringing updates to the web as soon as I can.

What does GOEX Cost?

At the NMLRA National Championship 2023, GOEX costs $24 per lb, but we don’t know what other distributors will charge once the full rollout is complete. I expect to see a broader market view in the coming months.

It’s important to remember that pickup at the NMLRA doesn’t have a “Hazmat” fee like ordering powder online does. The NMLRA does not ship powder.

Is New GOEX the same as Old GOEX?

Estes Energetics hasn’t mentioned a change in formula or plans to change the GOEX formula, but muzzleloading enthusiasts still want to know. At this time, no one to my knowledge has shot the new GOEX and made their findings publically available. I’m sure in the coming weeks and months there will be countless analyses published online for you to check out, but at this time we simply don’t have the information.

GOEX Relaunch Press Release

Minden, LA, Sept. 08, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Estes Energetics is excited to announce the restart of US black powder production on June 1st, 2023 and the first shipments to customers in August. Estes Energetics purchased the plant in January 2022 and partnered with the Department of Defense’s Manufacturing Capability Expansion & Investment Prioritization (MCEIP) office through its Defense Production Act (DPA) Title III authority to rebuild and modernize the only black powder manufacturing plant in the US. “Through our partnership with MCEIP, the US Army, and others in the black powder community, we were able to save this critical domestic industrial base asset and start on a path to modernization,” said Karl Kulling, CEO of Estes Energetics.

As the only remaining commercial black powder factory in the United States, this plant produces GOEX and Olde Eynsford brands of black powder, which are highly regarded by competitive and recreational shooters, re-enactors, muzzleloading hunters, and fireworks manufacturers. GOEX black powder also propels the model rocket motors of sister company Estes Industries, the leading model rocket brand, and supports the needs of the U.S. military. Black powder is a critical chemical in artillery charges, signals, flares, and numerous other weapons systems. “Investing in the GOEX plant is central to MCEIP’s mission to reestablish and strengthen critical and strategic domestic production,” said Anthony Di Stasio, Director of MCEIP.

GOEX traces its roots back to 1802, when DuPont opened the country’s first black powder plant in Delaware. DuPont’s Belin plant in Pennsylvania became part of GOEX in the early 1970s. In 1997, the operations of GOEX were moved to Minden, Louisiana. Estes Energetics is continuing this 220-year legacy of high-quality American-made black powder, bringing innovation and full-spectrum engineering capability to fortify safety and quality.
